Person crouching on a wet pavement beside a planting bed, holding a black plastic pot with tall green plants. The person wears yellow shorts, dark socks, and trainers, and has a metal bracelet on one wrist. Nearby weeds and grass grow along the edge of the pavement. A white plant label with printed text is inserted into the soil among the plants, and a parked car and metal fence are visible in the background.

Discover wildlife-friendly habitats, plant herbs in a pot to take home, explore the heritage of local green spaces, and enjoy arts & crafts.

Buzzing Barnet is a community event that helps bring people together to create more spaces for wildflowers and pollinators across the borough. Their group members will demonstrate various ways to rewild urban gardens, such as adding a small pond and nesting habitats.

The workshop supports participants to fashion “Buzz Stops” - portable pots planted with pollinator-friendly herbs and flowers that people can situate in their gardens and balconies thus providing nectar rich pathways for insects. Please bring a bag to carry your pots back home.

As part of Pollinators, Pathways and the Historic Walks of Finchley, this year’s event will also explore the history of local community gardens and green spaces, looking at how urban development has changed Finchley’s natural landscape over time and how community-led projects are helping reconnect habitats across the area.

Alongside planting activities, enjoy relaxed arts and crafts in a welcoming community setting. Visitors to the workshop will also be invited to engage in arts & crafts from upcycled materials, guided by artist and Archive Manager for the Finchley Society, Alison Sharpe.

The event is organised by East Finchley Town Team, the Finchley Pollinator Project, and East Finchley Community Trust.
