Just as Barnet’s early aviators turned the wind from an obstacle into a way to rise, Jeanne Harignordoquy has been commissioned to create three new kinetic sculptures especially for Light + Flight. Nestled among the pine trees and lake, they’ll be brought to life by the wind, turning every gust into movement and sound.
Jeanne Harignordoquy
Jeanne Harignordoquy is a creative director and artist based in London. She's behind SPF50, a project that explores wind, play, and design through the making of handmade kites.
Raised in Provence under the Mistral, she grew up shaped by one of nature's most powerful and unpredictable forces. That wind sparked a lifelong fascination with the invisible systems that hold our world together, and a deep care for what happens when they start to break down.
This fascination, combined with her background in design and interest in nature, play, and technology, led her to develop a practice that moves between sculpture and function.
For Light + Flight, Jeanne is presenting Be Our Gust: three kinetic sculptures powered entirely by wind. They sit at the entrance to Finchley Lakeside, each fitted with wind chimes and a large fabric wind spinner. When the wind picks up, so do the colours, sounds, and movements. It's a nod to the early Barnet aviators, who saw that same wind not as something to shelter from, but something to use and play with.
Alongside the sculptures, Jeanne is running a workshop where visitors can build their own wind spinner to take home.
