Two people sit at a table covered with art materials, including coloured markers, pens, scissors and glue. Both are working on illustrated paper designs, adding details and colour to architectural-style drawings. The table is filled with creative supplies and works in progress, suggesting a collaborative arts and crafts or design workshop.

Ascendance

As the sun goes down, see Finchley Lakeside’s five-storey atrium transformed by Ascendance, an ambitious new projection and sound installation created by artist Matthew Rosier with UP Projects and communities across Barnet.

Large-scale video portraits of local young people appear to float through the atrium, accompanied by the voices of older residents sharing stories of their journeys to Barnet, recordings of local birdsong, and an original musical score. Together, they explore Barnet as a place of arrival, movement, and belonging – for people and wildlife alike.

Created with over 140 Barnet residents, Ascendance is the major artistic commission at the heart of Light + Flight and will illuminate the building each evening as darkness falls.
